In his 1988 song "The Star Called Sun" Viktor Tsoi sings about a city that is 2000 years old. His fans for a long time speculated which city he could mean.

So it is interesting what cities were founded about 2000 years ago?

Other details about the city from the song are those that the city conducts a war for the whole 2000 years. It lays out as a patchwise cover and encircled by a road loop.

I don't think that Tsoi was referring to a specific city. It's more like a metaphor. Anyway I think you might want to specify what do you mean by foundation? Do you accept cities where 2000 y.o. settlements were found by archeologists? Or do you need historical evidence (written sources) of city foundation? –  default locale May 30 '12 at 11:32

Just another point. Do you need cities which were thought to be 2000 y.o. at the end of 1980's or nowadays? For example Toshkent thought to be 2000 y.o. those times. But nowadays uzbek archaeologist mostly agree on 2300-2500 years. –  default locale May 30 '12 at 11:38

Please see this. Solothurn seems to be the best fit.

Actually, lots of cities in there would be good candidates. Particularly when you consider the song in question was Russian, and thus physically closer to a lot of central Asia than to Western Europe. –  T.E.D. May 30 '12 at 14:20
