What is the oldest continual society that is still in existence today and what are the proofs for the age of the civilizations age?

That depends on what may be accepted as proof. The Jews go back fairly far. – JoeHobbit Oct 26 '11 at 5:38
an answer including any proof would be appreciated I doubt its the Jews because by their own account they only became Jews after God spoke to them at Sinai so Abraham was not a Jew and not even a Hebrew by the biblical account he was Assyrian I believe – Napoleonothecake Oct 26 '11 at 5:44

@Napoleonothecake: Leaving Bible aside, it is hard to define the point at which a nation comes into existence. This is even more true for a vague term like "civilization" - what do you mean with it? Are Jews a "civilization"? Did the Egyptian civilization ever cease to exist? Or the Greek? What about China - how many radical changes do you accept before you consider it a different civilization? Voting to close as "not a real question" (way too vague). – Wladimir Palant Oct 26 '11 at 7:40
When does one culture become another? Are the Basques still the same culture as their predecessors who survived the last Ice Age in Europe while everyone else died or left some 100 thousand years ago, for example? – Martin Sojka Oct 26 '11 at 12:52

How do you define continuity of a "culture"? Cultures are continuously evolving. This question is moot as I see it; voting to close and suggest others do the same! – Noldorin Oct 26 '11 at 12:53
