I've been curious about this, as India currently has about 10 less nuclear weapons than Pakistan, based on estimates. However, as India begun testing first, and generally has more resources and manpower, how did Pakistan manage to gain more nuclear weapons than India? I'm guessing that there was some event/something that happened at some point in history that would have led Pakistan to obtain more nuclear bombs, so what would this be?

@Luke I'm guessing there is some historical reason why they have more, rather than something that just happened overnight. However, I may not be correct and the events/causes that caused Pakistan to have more nuclear weapons may be current. – Reliable Source Dec 18 '12 at 3:15

Both India and Pakistan haven't signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, so the numbers involve a bit of guessing. That said, the fact that Pakistan run their first test 24 years before India did is probably a factor. I don't think your question is answerable though, especially since we can't even be sure the numbers are accurate. – Yannis Rizos Dec 18 '12 at 5:16
