I recall there's a story somewhere from history (possibly Chinese history) which tells the story of a powerful man, be it Emperor, King or general that mislead his princes or successor to believe that they will be succeeding him but behind the background is actually getting them to kill each other or fight each other in order to remain in power?

I suspect this is too vague for this site - there aren't enough details to tell if this is a story or a historical incident. I'm not sure how I'd recognize a valid answer. –  Mark C. Wallace Dec 19 '12 at 11:48

Perhaps Tony Blair? ;) –  Felix Goldberg Dec 19 '12 at 14:33

any historical accurate story which fits roughly this plot would have been nice. –  melaos Dec 20 '12 at 1:09

I'm not convinced this should be closed: doesn't sound so broad after all... –  Lohoris Dec 20 '12 at 16:11
