Did people have better nutrition before agriculture? Re teeth: big reason why eating grain-based foods was so bad for the teeth in ancient times was that the grains were ground with stones, and the flour contained lots of, effectively, sand which damaged the teeth terribly over longer time. Why was the Western Front so static in World War I? @FelixGoldberg They needed armour, doors opening to the front so that the soldiers could immediately run out of the boat and stability in shore water. |

Was the US Navy larger in 1917, and if so, why? I'm not sure if the US has the only blue water navy in the world. Both France and the UK can project naval power across the globe, although at much smaller scale. The UK did it during the Falkland War, for example. See also: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… |

Does the number of legs in the air of a horse statue indicate how its rider died? @Sardathrion But that kills the humour. |

Why did Operation Market Garden go ahead when the allies knew German armor was in the area? Another person warning against following the original plan of attack was Polish general Sosabowski. |

Why doesn't Russia maintain significant numbers of Aircraft carriers? @DVK Coming back to the topic: why do you think that Afghans need US help to develop their gold resources? Gold is not going to disappear from Aghanistan if it is excavated later, by their own mining companies once they are developed. |

Why doesn't Russia maintain significant numbers of Aircraft carriers? @DVK "Note that they didn't steal a working mine from poor natives." Of course it's not about the mine itself, but the gold mined therein. By taking over the resources they prevent the Afghan nation from mining it independently in the future. (Of course your racist assumption is that Afghans would never be able to do it by themselves, right?) |

Why doesn't Russia maintain significant numbers of Aircraft carriers? @DVK It is not true that the US did not at least try to extract resources from Afghanistan. American companies (JP Morgan, backed by Pentagon) were looking for gold there, for example: management.fortune.cnn.com/2011/05/11/… |
