comment Did Hitler really support Subhash Chandra Bose's cause and did he do anything to help Bose?
Also, Indian PoWs had already formed an army -- but they lacked a leader who had the stature of Bose. Bose was an extremely respected leader in India, and had even defeated Gandhi's candidate once in Congress.

True, but Bose was allowed to go based on the request of the Japanese. Unlike the Japanese, Hitler never allowed Bose to develop a provisional government as long as he was in Germany. And about the spy network in India, it was not at all effective. Bose was close to a lot of people who were sympathetic to the USSR in India, making it easy for the communists to infiltrate this spy network.

comment What was Gandhi's post-factum view of the Partition?
@PieterGeerkens Exactly my view too. Apart from what he himself said, most of the leaders in the Congress Working Committee owed their rise to Gandhi himself and it is hard to believe that they would have gone directly against him.

comment Who were the first democratically elected leaders of Russia in history?
@PieterGeerkens The word "leader" here is a little ambiguous. Here I considered "leader" to mean "Head of State".
