comment To what extent did Gandhi affect the factors that led to the partition of India?
@MonsterTruck You must understand that adding sources to this type of response is difficult, since it contains a lot of information, but I have tried my best.

I agree that this is the "official" history of modern India. And though I disagree with this answer, I feel that in the interest of fairness, I should add the reference that this response deserves. My own answer is in a different post.

comment Why did the Indian National Congress fail to convince Indian minorities to support united India
@user49727 But, if anything, the idea of partition should have made the Muslims who would have to live in India even more insecure. They would have very firmly opposed partition because it was in their own interests. But this did not happen.

Could you please cite something that says that Porus won? As far as I know, Indian history says that the glorious war was won by Alexander, not Porus. This was because Porus' cavalry mostly used elephants, and the night of the battle, the rain had made it difficult to move. Alexander's cavalry contained horses, and so faced no such difficulty.

comment Why were Indians not mass converted to Islam/Christianity?
@phaedrus The caste system ensured that people who changed their religion would not only have to change their belief system, but would also separate themselves from members of their own community. This was a major factor behind lowering the number of conversion to Islam. But, even then, most of those who converted were from lower castes.

Welcome to the site. Do not worry about spellings; are there to correct them in case it is necessary :)
