Both Claudius II and Aurelian seemed to be constantly fighting battles internally,in the east and the west, even more so than their predecessors. Yet the Illyrians almost always crushed their opponents while Gallienus, Valerian, Decius and others struggled terribly. Was it simply down to better leadership , some change in military structure or something else?

@TomAu Thorfinnur didn't find the continent(Leif Eiriksson did) nor did he have a sovereign to report to (due to the political system at the time).

Well Antinous is usually depicted with curly hair, just not as curly as on that particular statue! The object (tree trunk) which I thought was a Hermes giveaway is in fact a regular component of most large marbles statues, sculpted to support the main statue.
