comment Why did the French sell Louisiana?
@hermann Where have you heard that? It doesn't sound plausible.

comment How did Germany produce such an impressive portfolio of officers for WW2?
For some reason or another the German military seems to be more interesting to amateur pundits. The interest is usually not due to any shared political views but rather to the tendency to admire "military machines" fighting against the odds. See Sparta, elite divisions, Navy Seals, etc.

Interesting debate although I had to reach for the dictionary 3 times during the first paragraph alone!

comment Why is Christopher Columbus credited for “discovering” America?
That is not actually correct, the viking Thorfinnur Karlsefni traveled to America to settle the country. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…)

comment Do there exist busts/statues of all the roman emperors until the fall of the West?
That bust of Aurelian is usually attributed to be of his predecessor Claudius II (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudius_Gothicus) (also it makes him look suspiciously like Probus: everyhistory.org/images21/62.jpg and commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/… )

3 emperors with busts removed, one removed because he wasn't actually an emperor.

I'm pretty amazed to see that no statue of Aurelian exists, especially considering his reputation during and after his rule.
