Is there any evidence that the catholic church reduced innovation during the middle ages? @LennartRegebro I have heard that myself, but one could argue that the great minds merely shifted their focus from theology to science and natural philosophy. Therefore, measuring innovation should arguably be a more neutral measure. |

Is there any evidence that the catholic church reduced innovation during the middle ages? @quant_dev I do not know how it can be measured. What I am sure of is that there will be no accurate measure (number of patents filed is not the solution), but there might be some inaccurate ways that gives a rough indication. |

Are modern handguns a major reason for democratization? @DVK I have thought a lot about this since my last post and I am no longer sure about my opinion about gun laws. A curiosity is that even the police in Norway need permission on a case to case basis before bringing a gun into a situation. |

Are modern handguns a major reason for democratization? @AndrewVit Coming from Norway, where a maniac killed 69, mostly youths, with a legal gun in July this year, I completely support stricter gun laws, but on the other hand, I am thinking that there might be good historical reasons for the strong opinions supporting liberal gun laws. |
