I have been a tester, manager, automator, and release angineer for over 15 years. Working in Windows, *nix and distributed environments I've come in as the first part of QA and built groups or joined existing groups. I like process and am an evangelist for process improvement. I also dabble in tool smithing, while I am not a great coder I stick with it and have built up a nice array of tools over the years in Perl, Ruby and PowerShell. I automate when I can now, as that is my prime passion, and I wear all kinds of hats doing whatever is needed but always handling code from test to production.

I have many interests in cooking, reading, home improvement, MakerSpaces and many more. You'll find me on many SX's here.

I currently work for NaviNet as a Software Engineer in Test II

comment Why were the British so reluctant to allow Jewish migration to Palestine?
This coincides with my point about land ownership, the Zionist settlers figured out early on that basically if you can't get people to leave you can buy the land out from under them. With no work, and no land to live on, it was expected that the Arabs would leave and thus the land would belong to the Jews.

That is how I am defining "start", but I also look at it as if you are going to get on the ballot for a primary you have to be a declared candidate otherwise you cannot gain delegates at the party conferences. Which would have to be a goal to be a candidate and campaign; I am eliminating campaigns like Donald Trump that might have started and stopped without a serious intention to continue.

From the US side you can look at my old question on this focusing from the Colonial times in the US - history.stackexchange.com/questions/235/… There might be some relevant information there

comment Were Puritans Prudes or Progressive?
In some ways they were rather strict, you can read some of that yourself in the memoirs of Anne Hutchinson or Roger Williams. The Massachusetts Puritan colony was not averse to expelling those who did not keep with their beliefs.

comment How would Eastern European emigres have traveled across Eastern Europe to Warsaw in the early 20thC?
Very indepth, thank you. The rails is an interesting fact I did not know, seems to be a similar condition to American railways of the 1800's which were different gauges at one point (especially the American south). Gdansk is what we were told, and I have nothing to refute it at this time, maybe there was a change in ports for 1917?

comment Why did George H. W. Bush select Dan Quayle as his running mate in 1988?
Quayle had tons of gaffes, some more memorable than others. I'd have to find something concrete but if I remember he was chosen to appeal to younger voters under the impression that GWH Bush was too old and unable to do so.
