It wasn't thought that Jesus was Jewish until the Renaissance? Any sources for support of this statement? Seems completely unlikely to me, as the according to the New Testament, Jesus was definitely a Jew. |

What is the first known organized religion in the world? Many illiterate societies developed pretty complex systems of cult.. Hence, there will be no definitive answer to the part of your question regarding ceremonies and traditions, because of lack of sources. Judging "development" of religion having fragmentary archeological sources is highly questionable. The first religions that left some kind of holy scriptures will be those of ancient Egypt and Sumer. |

Are modern Greeks related to the ancient Greeks? @Felix Goldberg Do you mean cultural relation or the biological one? The first one may be explained quite easily by linguistics, the second one - by genetics research only, and I doubt a definitive, not-questionable answer may be found nowadays. |

Why does the monarchy of Belgium still exist after Leopold 2? But Leopold was not a dictator. He was a constitutional monarch and the guilt is on the whole nation and its elite, of course. That's an oversimplification, until today, it is unconstitutional by Belgian law to even accuse the king of anything. And nation being guilty for the deeds of its king (appointed and legitimated not-quite-so-democratically) - I cannot agree with this statement. However, I agree - as it was about killing Africans somewhere far far away, European public opinion did not care too much |

Was Alexander the Great Greek or Macedonian? Maybe the question should be re-expressed as were ancient Macedonians Hellens? I'd say that in that time and place, there was no concept of nationality as understood today, rather 2-level affiliation: first of the local state or tribe, and the second - of Hellen cultural circle. It makes no sense to even talk about Greek nationality in 4 century BC. There was no such thing as Greek nation at the time. Short answer would be that Alexander was an ethnic Macedonian, which Macedonians belonged to Hellen cultural circle (though being somehow of its edge). |

Why does the monarchy of Belgium still exist after Leopold 2? I'd rather say that it's been common through the ages that crimes performed by politicians/kings/leaders, which were part of politics/state expansion were left unpunished, if the King/leader did not lose a war that would dispose him of power. Leopold is just one of many cases (hoever quite an interesting one). |
