Why are the Portuguese so obsessed with salted codfish? Thanks for the answer and for the interesting bit from @jwenting however I still don't understand why they still stick to it while Spain was more or less in the same condition (long sea journeys), plus the Basque people were main cod producers in the past. I actually read Mark Kurlansky's book about cod a while back. I'll reread it for more information .. |

Printing - When did advertisements in colour became commonplace? I'm not really sure which tags to choose for this question. |

How far could an English war bow shoot? I'm not sure about that. I doubt that the possible range of bows was taken into account for castle design in a scientific- or physical-meaningful way that allows to infer ranges of bows but clearly there had to be guesses about this question of life and death. But then castles were not only built to defend from ranged attacks so entangling this matter will be difficult. Very interesting thought though. |

How historically accurate Life is Beautiful is when it comes to Jewish extermination? Literally "Vernichtung" translates to destruction and annihilation whereas "Konzentration" simply means aggregation. In the historical context, of course, in both sort of camps million of people died and differentiation is blurry but the "Vernichtungslager" where built with the purpose of systematically destroying human life and were constructed later than "Konzentrationslager". |
