comment How did the United States avoid (or recover from) post revolution corruption?
Ghana was literally owned by slave owners who considered the inhabitants sub-human as well as never managing to get any sort of infrastructure or citizen education up and running. plus i wouldn't be surprised if the colonials had made a concerted effort to make it fall into dictatorship favorable to them as well as inflicting divide and conquer upon it. When the colonials themselves settled just about everything was different about their situation.

comment Why China was able to unify and not Europe
they actively made sure that unification did not happen for that was against their interests. it is easy to sound conspiracy minded because human societies are full of groups of people working secretly against the interest of the whole. which is the definition of a conspiracy. And Sudan is just one of oh so many third world states that got just this treatment. Sudan was the rule, not the exception, I can name many more countries. and why they didnt unite in the early 20th century is somewhat relevant for its same reason as always, outside interference of interest in maintaining division.

The difference in circumstances between those two countries and periods is phenomenal, at such there doesn't need to be any such effect in the states at the time even if there was in Ghana.

comment How much of the Napoleonic wars were paid by the sale of Louisiana?
i think he knew he was going to loose louisiana and get nothing for it anyways and might as well try to bargain for something. the french always had some presence in iceland, they were fishing there a lot. but yeah it would be hard to maintain trade routes there during war with britain.

Many of the world's absolute best scientific minds of the time were in Germany, and they were beating the allies in many key advancements already.

I think it was just something my history teacher said to the class 20 years ago. Although I'm not sure.

It would be seen as what is is then.. war. And declaring it is just some insignificant formality.

I don't mean to be hostile. But what is actually happening in the physical world, is that a bomber is produced in the states, then flies over to Britain from which it drops bombs on German cities. And as far as payment goes it is free of charge. So in the physical world the United States is attacking Germany, but there is this accounting trick that is applied where this American plane is logged as British. And that's supposed to justify all. Just imagine yourself in this situation, if China just started bombing the USA, with an accounting trick agreement with someone else.

No that is not a problem because I am claiming correlation, not causation.
