Military intervention in government in India and Pakistan @mgb still it does not answer my question. In essence, it why democracy did not thrive in Pakistan, while it did in India. The early military officers of both countries had the same training and background from British. |

Military intervention in government in India and Pakistan when I said they were not puppets, what I meant was that they were under no more influence than a civilian government would have been at that time. |

Military intervention in government in India and Pakistan @mgb but at least in the case of Pakistan, there is no evidence of direct foreign influence. None of the military dictators, (including Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Huq, Musharaf) were puppets in the hands of other powers. |

Military intervention in government in India and Pakistan My question was on the domestic military influence in the government, not on foreign influence. |

Life expectancy of monarchs and its relation to stability/peace @ihtkwot that is why I mentioned average life expectancy. I was more interested in what happened over a period of time for many number of rulers. Someone warring for 50 years and not getting killed can be considered as an exception, IMO. |

Life expectancy of monarchs and its relation to stability/peace @ihtkwot as I mentioned, higher life expectancy (or length of rule) means there were relatively lesser number of wars. So this might imply a peaceful period. |

Are there any communist leaders without a record of acts we consider as a crime (against humanity)? @apoorv020 added that too. |

Are there any communist leaders without a record of acts we consider as a crime (against humanity)? @Gangnus Nehru was never a communist, he can be called a socialist at the best. He proposed an economic policy of regulated private enterprises which is a far cry from communist policies. Also, I have mentioned in my answer that A K Gopalan, a communist, was the first opposition leader in India. Also Nehru was instrumental in dismissing the communist government of E M Shankaran Nampoodiripad. So you can safely say that Nehru was opposed to Indian communists atleast. |

Who was responsible for the partition of India? @mgb yes, relatively speaking. |

Who was responsible for the partition of India? @mgb But Muslim 'minorities' (along with others) still live in a 'Hindu' India. |

How would a large kingdom be ruled? I am not looking for kingdom wise examples - rather the means with which ancient kingdoms were ruled when the means of communications were primitive. It could apply to any large kingdom in that era. |
