comment Why did Napoleon march to Moscow instead of Saint Petersburg?
@Matt Easily. If the story was invented, there was the first author. It seems, you simply invent things and refuse to prove anything.

comment Why did Napoleon march to Moscow instead of Saint Petersburg?
@Matt as far, as it is popular, it is widely known. But if it is a spoof, where is your proof about that?

@Matt You "citation" is a lie - there is absolutely nothing supporting your thesis.

comment Why did Napoleon march to Moscow instead of Saint Petersburg?
Napoleon said that he would separate the Russian armies forever. He never thought that Russian marshals would be so stupid as to battle at the border with thrice greater army, without any attempt to use the territory.

comment Why did Napoleon march to Moscow instead of Saint Petersburg?
No. The history of the 1812 war starts by the Napoleon's citation: "If I would take S.P., I would hold Russia by the head. If I take Kiev, I will hold Russia by legs. If I take Moscow, I will reach right into its heart!" The Moscow was the target. It is also mentioned in Stendal's diaries.

comment Why did Stalin push for the Great Purge against the Red Army in 1936?
Your book is obvious repetition of the Chrushev's version of history - written by a gang of killers, defending themselves by putting all on their leader. Respected communist guards? They were absolutely same murderers. Simply Stalin happened to be cleverer and won over them. Their winning would result in even more victims, due to less intelligence with same lack of morals. They were all communists who killed these tens of millions of people. Stalin killed no one personally...

Yes, he made absolutely necessary steps - for his own power sake.
