How did people react to Cavendish bananas when they first replaced the Gros Michel strain? This is a really creative and thoughtful question. The first time I saw it I thought "What an absurd question," but now after reading it again I realize that you asked a really specific and unique question. I had a history professor who was obsessed with food and how it affected society, but sadly he is not here. I wish I could help you out. |

Founding Fathers and the Civil War @CodyGray Do you have any sources for this assertion? I don't doubt it's veracity, but I would be interested in further reading about the idea. |

Why did the French insist on reclaiming Indo-China after WWII? @Gaurav well I would say that France may have given it pause because of the devastation suffered from WWII and the idea of the spread of democracy, self-determination for the colonies, etc. |

What was the impetus for some African nations to participate in the slave trade? I'm more so curious as to what factors (political, economic, social) contributed to those African nations being willing to engage in the trade. For example, was there frequent war between people in Africa prior to the arrival of the Europeans looking for slaves? That sort of thing. |

What was the impetus for some African nations to participate in the slave trade? So are you saying that those African nations were already involved in the slave trade and as such the Europeans just happened upon it and they took advantage of new consumers? |

Why did the French insist on reclaiming Indo-China after WWII? I did some searching, but as far as I could find the French were interested in reclaiming it because it was theirs previously. I asked the question because I was wondering if there were political, economic, or other factors that influenced the French outside of "it was ours previously and we want it back." |

What specific changes were made to political ideologies around during and before World War I? Well, like anything else on this site I would say it is intended as a starting point. You could probably weasel a PhD thesis out of this topic. |
