comment Why were the people from the Southeast in the US so different from the rest of the US?
From the very start of the USA until after the civil war there were two centers of power: New York and Charleston: i.stack.imgur.com/mwqkc.gif They are separated by 750 miles, while Berlin and Paris are only 600 miles apart. In the south "the good get out" and in the northeast the bad are forced out by high costs of living. Geography and economics both contribute to the situation. Also throw in the north having twice as many people during the civil war and the money to do things thereafter resulted in yankee culture dominating the USA. The "old south" culture is still aristocratic.

comment Is the Cold War still going on?
Hmmm It took a mere 2 years for this question to be put "on hold." By the way, how is this opinion based? The cold war is over@! no nuclear threat. zilch. gone. nada remains.

comment Were Puritans Prudes or Progressive?
@TomAu: You only say that because of the hype surrounding the "Spanish Armada," which arises from it being the only invasion attempt of Britain in hundreds of years. Napoleon "conquered" Germany... and Germans still speak German.

comment Were Puritans Prudes or Progressive?
I question the assertion that the parents of the Puritans had won a successful war against the Spanish, because the year after the Spanish Armada was defeated the English suffered a similarly crushing naval defeat of the "Counter Armada."

@FelixGoldberg I am not entirely sure what I mean by progressive there. The purpose of this question is to address which historical narrative is accurate. Only then may the meaning of progressive be explored.

comment Where are Genghis Khan's Mongols?
@Dagvadorj you should post an answer to this question. You seem to know a lot more than I do. I have resorted to googling stuff. I thought that the purpose of this site was to answer questions google can't, but apparently I'm wrong. All people want is a free secretary to prepare a nice google-searched presentation for 'em. If I hadn't found such a pretty map I wouldn't even have bothered editing my answer. It delighted me.

@MarkC.Wallace I was hoping for an annual comparison of colonial tax revenue vs. military and infrastructure spending as seen by the British parliament budget office.

@Noldorin The British did conquer Quebec City. If by "general weakening" you mean the French couldn't send more troops after that, then I see your point.

"snow you" alone merited my up-vote! I wouldn't mind if that became cliche.

The Soviet blockade of Berlin was enough to cause the Berlin Airlift.
