Hello world,

My name is not Monster Truck II and I was not born in 1920. But here is something about me that I feel comfortable sharing. I studied physics and computer science at college and enjoy reading (history, politics, and economics) and listening to music.

Here is my bookshelf:

comment Is this true that the requirement to sacrifice to the Roman gods was put in by the Caesar only after Christianity emerged?
Caesar was before christ unless you are referring to Caesar as a title. Even before the first Caesar, sacrifice was quite commonplace in the Roman Culture. I have sources which I will post when you specify which Caesar.

comment Why did the Indian National Congress fail to convince Indian minorities to support united India
@user571376 Minor correction: The Mughal empire only briefly managed to consolidate Hindus and Muslims under one empire. After Aurangzeb the support for the Marathas was very high amongst the Hindus and under his rulership much of the previous work done by his predecessors had been undone. The British merely capitalized on existing tensions.

comment Why did some people need to pay a bond in the 1700s in order to get married?
Bonds are almost always posted to remove trust issues. Even to this date, some employers ask new employees to sign a bond which the said employees have to oblige by if they leave the employer before a designated period --a bond with an expiry if you will. Thanks for this interesting answer that clearly explains where the lack of trust came from in this case.

comment What was the first successful non violent independence movement?
Independence movements are a sub-class of a political opposition. I think broadening the scope to include other forms of political opposition may bring out some more answers --independence movements are very recent (past 80 years or so barring a handful that are older). Mr. Gandhi's own struggle in South Africa will then be a candidate.

comment What options India had other than getting its independence from Britain?
@SevenSidedDie True. And I agree there.

This question does not deserve to be down voted or closed because it offends people. It is true that some people may find it offensive but that is not the point of history. People must be free to ask questions and as good scholars we must try to put our points peacefully and rationally. However, I believe this question is more of a "what-if" question than a real history question.

Did the ancients really need to farm near the equator --given the abundant supply of food in the form of game and fruits?

@VitalijZadneprovskij I think you should post that as a new question.

Are you proposing a new foreign policy for the U.S. or is this an actual question?

comment What historical conditions (culture, technology, events, etc.) contributed to China's current lead in population?
I would be more interested in food supply. Food is how all other animals spread --surely it must apply to us too. Unless a mass epidemic strikes a population hygiene does not become a deciding factor. Researching my books to confirm.

comment Which have been the most and least successful Olympics in terms of economic impact?
@lins314159 I added some explanation for profits --mainly relying on the official balance sheets published by the organisers. I think analysing the GDP data is going to take more time than I thought of --there is simply too much data to go through. Perhaps some day I will finish it.

@SevenSidedDie Ok. It is too long to post --I will post a summary here and link my blog post tonight.

Should this question go to an Economics forum? I once analysed this very same topic in a blog post/white paper. Will post an answer if the community agrees that this post deserves to be on the history Q&A site.
