My name is not Monster Truck II and I was not born in 1920. But here is something about me that I feel comfortable sharing. I studied physics and computer science at college and enjoy reading (history, politics, and economics) and listening to music.

I doubt Greek was being spoken continent wide (in the former sense). Greek had two glory periods --classical antiquity and medieval Byzantine era. In both periods, Greek usage was pretty much confined to Greece (& Co.), Asia Minor, and Egypt. If you mean latter, then see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lingua_francas

But those links only prove that the Indian kings once reigned over parts of South east Asia. The extrapolation that South Indians settled in South China is not substantiated by any historical source that I know of. That is why I was looking for some concrete evidence.

Most of the trading was concentrated around the Pearl River Delta. There were some local fishing villages here but that was it --so it is quite likely that the Indians/Portuguese/Dutch didn't come here or came, ignored, and went. Most place names in HK are either Chinese in origin or have some connection to the British period.

A general lack of respect for higher education and a constant threat of invasion (that caused a general short sightedness amongst the rulers and the ruled) would be the reasons why those universities faded away.
