Is there any history of a government/ruling party refusing to accept a Supreme Court order? The Shah Bano case in India led the Indian govt to enact a legislation which countermanded the Supreme Courts order. |

From whom did Gandhi learn his protest technique of non-violence? You may find this article relevant. |

Tolstoy's view of history "individuals are themselves shaped by larger impersonal forces that keep them from being "independent actors", that is what I am talking about. Tolstoy gave an analysis (and that is all pre-Soviet) that such external (and infinitely many and unknowable in totality) factors caused Napolean to do what he did. My question, is, are there any other such analysis done? |

Tolstoy's view of history Just to clarify would you say that Napolean had a real personal effect on the course of the French invasion of Russia, more so then a common soldier? |

Why, even, various developed countries faced Coup D'etat, Dictatorship and/or Civil War but India didn't? I disagree with that. "Forced to rule by aliens"? I don't think any pan-India empire of the size of Republic of India has ever been forced to be ruled by aliens. And sticking together? What do you mean? The Assamese and the South Indian kingdoms were sticking together in what sense? |

Why, even, various developed countries faced Coup D'etat, Dictatorship and/or Civil War but India didn't? My point is that there is just too much of this diversity in India. For every movement triggered by a group inherent diversity shows up within the group as well and starts pulling it in different directions. |

Why, even, various developed countries faced Coup D'etat, Dictatorship and/or Civil War but India didn't? I think the number of ethnic groups in China/Russia are not entirely as diverse as India. (Han Chinese (91%)). Are there places in China where the language changes if you go from your home to the market to buy groceries? There are such places in India. |
