PzIII had done well earlier, but was now under-gunned and its armor was becoming inadequate. PzIV was an anti-infantry tank with a very short 75mm gun. The Tiger in late 1942 was a shock, but they were expensive, few were available, and had enormous mechanical problems. The Panther was still being designed. It wouldn't be until the PzIV was upgraded to Ausf G that the Germans had a good all-rounder tank. | |
