I have a socket bayonet that is 25 and a half inches in overall length. The blade itself is 21 and a half long. The scabbard has an arrow with WD under it,and under 'that' is a crown which under that is an 'E' and under that is a '7'. The blade has on its hilt an 'R' and across from that a 'M'. Under the R is that same arrow design with WD under and then under that is a crown which under that is an E and under that is 73. On the other side where the M is it has a vertical line then under that is a 'P' Any information of this would be much appreciated.

Where and when did you acquire the bayonet?

An item bearing similar markings was sold here as a BRITISH MARTINI ENFIELD SOCKET BAYONET. A picture of your item would help confirm this identification.

  • Yes, identification questions are generally much more successful here when a photo of the item in question is included.
