A breaching charge is used by soldiers, elite units and SRT such as SWAT, GIGN... to blast doors, walls, windows... As you can see on the pictures or your video, it can be held or stick/glued to the part you want to blast.

Door breaching "is a process used by military, police, or emergency services to force open closed or locked doors. A wide range of methods are available depending on the door's opening direction (inward or outward), construction materials, etc., and one or more of these methods may be used in any given situation."

As for the historical part of this weapon, I have no sources. I have seen many episodes of The insider (no english version of the page, series available in English online) where tactical units around the world show their skills and weapons, but as for the starting point, it's unclear, as all of these elite intervention units have the same kind of training and experience, and they often share knowledge, and improve the other teams' weapons. It may also have been initiated in the army.

It's a SVD, also sometimes known as a Dragunov. It was designed sometime between the late 1950's and the early 1960s. It was chambered in 7.62x54r, it is still used today in sniper capacities.

  • I think you missed the point (and mixedweapons), as the question seems to be about the explosive square that the soldier is sticking to the window in order to explode it.
