Based on record sales, [this Wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists) and this [Business Insider article](https://www.businessinsider.com/best-selling-music-artists-of-all-time-2016-9#9-pink-floyd-75-million-units-42) of top music acts would certainly seem to bear that out. Elvis may always be the King, but the Beatles outsold him considerably, and may well have been "more popular than Jesus" with the popular culture youth in the 1960's.
