One of the reasons why the [1962 Cuban Missile Crisis][1] did not escalate into a war was due to the diplomacy of [Adlai Stevenson][2] in the UN. Are there other instances where a serious crisis was **defused** primarily due to UN diplomacy?

**Edit:** I'm looking for instances where highly tense brink-of-war situations were defused at/by the UN.
