Jun 30, 2016 at 7:17 comment added user3450 "Alternatively, if you happened to be a sociopath, the nearly indiscriminate terror and the impunity might appeal to you." Nice conclusion, but I never heard that sociopaths saved around 500 US pilots in WW2, and that Hezbolah leader was awarded Legion of Merit from US president?

Mar 21, 2013 at 11:09 comment added Felix Goldberg Sociopaths almost always use lofty principles as an excuse for sadistic behaviour. The difference between war and peacetime is that in peacetime there is a ban on overt physical violence so only the intelligent sociopaths get a free pass to torment people - mentally. In wartime, the simpler sociopathic folks, who only know how to inflict the physical kind of pain, can thrive as well.

Aug 15, 2012 at 18:04 comment added T.E.D. @DavidNavarre - Yes, everyone wants to "think of the children", but who thinks of the sociopaths? :-) Sadly, I wasn't kidding much. I've often thought that times of social strife must be heaven for Sociopaths. Normally their homicidal tendencies have to be supressed, lest the rest of society hunt them down. But give them an excuse to claim they are acting on some kind of principle...
Aug 15, 2012 at 17:38 comment added David Navarre +1 for sociopaths. So few people want to think about their motivation. ;-)
