Dec 21, 2017 at 15:59 comment added Anton Keslov I mean, yes through out the duration of the Soviet Union, how were the land owners effected? Where did they go? See, it is unclear, but also, the oligarchy and simple land owners. I mean the middle class folk, landowner, law abiding citizens. For those who owned property, what happened to it when/throughout communism?
Dec 20, 2017 at 19:14 comment added jjack @jamesqf So with 'people' he means the middle class?

Dec 20, 2017 at 18:35 comment added jamesqf @CGCampbell: The stereotypes we saw from the '50s on were photos & descriptions of how they all huddled together in those massive communal apartment blocks, no? Much like US/British inner city housing projects. Before the Communist takeover, the middle and moderately upper classes presumably had normal (by western standards of the time) houses to live in. I think the OP is asking what happened to those houses.

Dec 20, 2017 at 17:29 comment added Semaphore Welcome to History. This question is a bit unclear. Do you mean when the communists came to power, or for the whole duration of the Soviet Union? In Russia, or the Soviet republics, or in occupied regions? Please clarify.

Dec 20, 2017 at 17:02 comment added CGCampbell Not sure I'm following your question here. What do you think happened? Soviet citizens all huddled in caves or under trees in the snow?
