You focused on commercial aviation, but military aviation (one of Third Reich strong sides) and rocket technology (another) are nowhere near world top in today's Germany. Germany produces one 4+ gen fighter (Typhoon) in consortium with other countries, and that is about it. In space technology they are lagging far behind Americans, Russians, even Chinese and Indians. | |

It does presume that Airbus is a British/French company when it is really pan-European.According to Wikipedia, it looks like Messerschmit-Bölkow-Blohm didn’t get into the aircraft business until the late 60s. Messerschmit never resumed aircraft production after the war, Blohm & Voss had most of their shipbuilding facilities destroyed at the insistence of the British. The other major aircraft maker during WWI, Heinkel, was prohibited from building aircraft until the mid-50s. | |
