Dec 6, 2018 at 20:31 comment added Kerry L @rs.29 thanks for explaining he downvote! Many never bother. :-( But I disagree with your reasoning because the OP asked about aviation industry in Germany compared to other European countries. I addressed the aviation industry in Germany. But I do appreciate the feedback, thanks!
Dec 6, 2018 at 19:43 comment added rs.29 I had to down-vote the answer because it paints wrong picture. You focused on commercial aviation, but military aviation (one of Third Reich strong sides) and rocket technology (another) are nowhere near world top in today's Germany. Germany produces one 4+ gen fighter (Typhoon) in consortium with other countries, and that is about it. In space technology they are lagging far behind Americans, Russians, even Chinese and Indians.
Dec 6, 2018 at 15:08 comment added JScarry Thanks for the detailed answer. I don’t think my original premise was off far off. It does presume that Airbus is a British/French company when it is really pan-European.According to Wikipedia, it looks like Messerschmit-Bölkow-Blohm didn’t get into the aircraft business until the late 60s. Messerschmit never resumed aircraft production after the war, Blohm & Voss had most of their shipbuilding facilities destroyed at the insistence of the British. The other major aircraft maker during WWI, Heinkel, was prohibited from building aircraft until the mid-50s.
