@Tim - There are MANY parts of the US where a teacher delving into religious topics during class would be fired. Yes, those protests work, and they work well.
The lack of any identifying text for country and value indicate to me that your coin is actually a token or commemorative medal - possibly political in nature (the eagle carrying what appears to be a lion may be indicative of a political victory). The P and N could be initials of a political party. From an artistic point of view, I'd say it looks early 20th century - maybe up to the 1930s..
@sds The phrase appears in a 1999 biography of the Stevenson family called 'The Stevensons, an American Family' by Jean Baker. Here's the relevant page; books.google.com/… The phrase is much older and is used in context with the 1892 election (see wikipedia).
@bof Thanks. That's correct. Arthur never mounted a serious campaign for the nomination. According to Wikipedia: "He kept up a token effort, believing that to drop out would cast doubt on his actions in office and raise questions about his health, but by the time the convention began in June, his defeat was assured." I believe this makes Arthur the last sitting President to not be renominated.
Well, Vice President Millard Fillmore became President on the death of Zachary Taylor and then was not renominated by his party for President after that term ended (I think he's the last - only? - sitting President to not be nominated for another term). Does that count?
Lots of information online about the rise of American Evangelicism in the country since 1979, including many Evangelical NGOs. The Joshua Project reports that the country is 90% Christian (33% Evangelical). Nothing specific about how this rise of Evangelicism came about, however. The large number of Evangelical NGOs could have something to do with that, but again, no definitive source that I could find. This same growth is happening in many countries in Africa. It appears to be coupled with a rise in homophobia as well.
Venezuelans also informally use the US dollar due to hyperinflation, but again, that's a way larger economy than their own and it's not state-sanctioned (but allowed by the state).
She could literally have drowned herself if she couldn't swim - just take a boat out onto a deep-enough lake and jump into the water. Reasons for suicide are of course personal, but she could easily have had depression (post-partum or otherwise) or been trapped in a very unhappy and/or abusive marriage.
